I am now retired and no longer have laboratory access, but would like to remain connected with the phage community. In terms of phage, over the course of my career I've worked with T5, T4, lambda, P1, phi80, and prophages in a number of bacterial genomes. I got into the sequencing game not so much because there was a plan to sequence E. coli, but because there was a plan to sequence E. coli -- i.e., sequencing per se was just a tool, but to have the entire genomic sequence of a host organism available would be fantastic. So I became a bacteriologist who stumbled into genomics and bioinformatics when he wasn't looking, and found that he liked it. My expertise lies in the area of prokaryotic genomics, especially within the Enterobacterales. I've been known to refer to myself as a “bioinformaticist without portfolio (or training)."
