Emma Sheriff

Using molecular biology techniques and a tomato plant model, I investigate the role of arsenal of antiphage defense systems in Ralstonia, an agricultural pathogen of international concern. Prior to starting my postdoc at the University of Helsinki, I completed my PhD in Microbiology under the supervision of Dr. Breck Duerkop at the University of Colorado Anschutz. There, I used omics techniques, coupled with traditional molecular and microbiological approaches, to probe phage-bacteria interactions during Enterococcus faecalis infection.

  • ORCID self-report: Emma Sheriff says her current work investigates how anti-phage defense systems affect phage-based biocontrol efficacy. [2]
  • ORCID self-report: her prior research included omics work on phage-host interactions in Enterococcus and anti-CRISPR identification in Staphylococcus. [3]
