Elyse Stachler, PhD

Eawag; Pathogens and Human Health

Elyse is currently a Postdoc at Eawag in Zurich, Switzerland. Her current research focuses on environmental isolation of bacteriophages and how bacteriophages interact with and infect biofilms, specifically in combination with disinfectants. Largely, she is interested in novel strategies to engineer the microbiome of the built environment to improve human health. She completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh under the advisement of Dr. Kyle Bibby. Her PhD work was funded by the NSF GRFP working on development of a novel phage-based source tracking marker for detection of human fecal pollution in the environment. She also enjoy community engagement, volunteering every week at the Carnegie Science Center in the theaters department during her PhD.
