Alise Ponsero, PhD
University of Arizona; Hurwitz labI am a microbiologist and a bioinformatician studying the role of microorganisms in their environment. I received my PhD in microbiology and cellular biology from the University of Paris-Saclay (France). I hold two master’s degrees, one in environmental microbiology and another in computer science. I am currently working as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Arizona. My research focuses on the development of new bioinformatic tools to analyze massive datasets, leveraging my expertise in both microbial ecology and data science. I am also involved in the development of cyberinfrastructure such as iMicrobe (https://imicrobe.us) and Planet Microbe (https://planetmicrobe.org). I am currently working on tools and methods for the retrieval and analysis of viral sequences from metagenomes, and I would love to discuss any potential collaborations looking at phages in understudied ecosystems.
