UST BEATS Research Group

The BEATS research group, headed by Associate Professor Donna May D. Papa, RMT, Ph.D., DPAM aims to widen knowledge, awareness and broaden the importance of phage biology in the Philippines, discover phage diversity from various habitats and their ecological niche, and utilize phages in animal models for therapeutics, aquaculture, food industry, and medicine.

The BEATS Research group aspires to create the country's first bacteriophage culture collection despite numerous obstacles. As with the lack of existing articles on the efficiency and use of phages in our country, the potential to perform basic and applied phage research here in the Philippines is untapped. This is where the BEATS Research group shines. To quote Dr. Papa “In spite of all these obstacles, I still choose to work on these remarkable entities!"
