Our laboratory addresses antibiotic resistance using advanced systems and synthetic biology. We developed a functional metagenomic method with engineered bacteriophages to study antimicrobial resistance and horizontal gene transfer. Our work on carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii mapped its genetic diversity and geographic distribution, enabling the creation of therapeutic phage collections targeting regional infections. We also investigate pathogen transmission dynamics, including nosocomial infections and the COVID-19 pandemic. By understanding resistance evolution and pathogen populations, we aim to facilitate clinical trials and advance phage therapy, offering innovative, personalized solutions to combat resilient bacterial infections.
