Antibiotic Resistance and Bacteriophage Laboratory

Organization typelab

Our phage group works on, isolation and therapeutic characterization of bacteriophages infecting Gram-negative bacteria particularly Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii and Salmonella typhi. Also secrrening bacteriophage for MSSA, MRAS, VER etc. studies on appearance of bacteriophage insensitive mutants (BIMs) during in vitro phage therapy and application of bacteriophages to treat infections caused by Vibrio species in Shrimp and fishes.

Our lab is currently focusing on the identification of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the clinical samples. Our group is working on Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), mechanism of Colistin resistance among Gram-negative bacteria, emerging tigecycline resistance in Klebsiella through hetero-resistance mechanisms, studies on the appearance of persister cells in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus.
