Xiang Hou (Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China) and colleagues published a new paper on a repressor, RptR, that controls Type I restriction modification system defence islands. They show that RptR binds TAGCTA repeats to silence the island until phage infection lifts repression.
