Structure and infection dynamics of mycobacteriophage Bxb1 (Cell)

A Cell paper reports the complete structure and atomic model of mycobacteriophage Bxb1, a virus of Mycobacterium smegmatis, including the capsid, tail tube and tail-tip assembly. Cryoelectron tomography of phage bound to M. smegmatis shows the structural transitions as the phage binds the cell surface and crosses the cell wall to transfer DNA into the cytoplasm.
