Structural characterization of giant virus infection

Jason Schrad (Michigan State University) and colleagues published a structural characterization in Cell (through cryoEM, cryoET, and SEM) of how giant virus infection is initiated. They also use proteomics to identify proteins released from capsids during infection. Their work suggests the molecular forces that trigger infection are conserved among disparate giant viruses.
