Seven years of Pittsburgh Phage Program data presented at IDWeek 2026: 357 requests, 77 approved single-patient applications
Healio reports (October 26, 2026) on the Pittsburgh Phage Program's seven-year review presented by Ghady Haidar at IDWeek 2026 (Washington, October 21-24). From November 2019 to April 2026 the program received 357 phage requests, 347 of which produced an isolate for screening; phages were identified for 246. Of 77 approved single-patient applications, 73 patients received or were pursuing therapy. Day-28 outcomes were adjudicated for 26 patients (41% improved, 36% stable); the researchers reported no deaths attributable to phages and urged a move from compassionate use to clinical trials. Figures are as reported by Healio; the IDWeek abstract was not found.
