Phage PAK_P3 genome folding and host chromosome rearrangement during Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection (Science Advances)

Bignaud, Lamy-Besnier, Koszul, Debarbieux, Marbouty and colleagues followed the 3D organization of the virulent phage PAK_P3 genome during infection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The phage genome rapidly decondenses into a specific 3D organization that reflects its transcriptional program while the host genome decondenses as gene expression wanes, and specific contacts between the phage genome and the host chromosome show how the phage exploits its host's spatial genome architecture.
