Mom protein phage mu

Shweta Karambelkar (Indian Institute of Science) and colleagues published a interesting report on how phage Mu uniquely protects its DNA from diverse host defense systems in Nucleic Acids Research. They characterized Mu's "Mom" protein, which is responsible for DNA modification/protection, and has evolved to make a 'giant chemical leap' from acetylation to methylcarbamoylation activity.
