Microsoft Discovery team builds an inspectable-agent bioinformatics workflow to find phages against drug-resistant bacteria

Microsoft describes using its Discovery app, with inspectable AI agents, to help scientists design a bioinformatics workflow that searches environmental datasets for phages that may infect a given drug-resistant pathogen and recommends follow-on laboratory experiments. Six local Model Context Protocol servers gave the agents access to genomic records, literature, predicted protein structures and clinical-trial records, and the project went from task tree to draft report in under four hours. The post presents a reproducible computational approach and says it does not claim a treatment result; no experimentally confirmed phages are reported. Posted 30 September 2026.
