METAMIC3 doctoral project on phages and antimicrobial peptides against planktonic and biofilm-embedded bacteria (Laura Marsal, University of Pisa)

In the METAMIC³ Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, doctoral candidate Laura Marsal (University of Pisa; main supervisor Mariagrazia Di Luca) studies the effect of phages and antimicrobial peptides on bacteria growing freely or embedded in biofilms. The project aims to develop high-content screening of microbial effectors, isolate and characterize new bacteriophages targeting human bacteria from different microbiomes, and build a biobank of phages, antimicrobial peptides and novel antibiotics.
