M13 phage displaying amyloid-β peptides detects Aβ-oligomers in Alzheimer's brain tissue
Researchers at the University of Minho and partner institutions show that synthetic M13 phages displaying Aβ-derived peptides bind preferentially to amyloid-β oligomers. In hippocampus tissue from APP/PS1 transgenic mice the phages detected small Aβ-aggregates at an early age, before plaques formed, and they revealed similar aggregates in post-mortem hippocampus tissue from Alzheimer's patients.
