Guntur doctors treat drug-resistant bone and joint infection with phage therapy

Doctors at SHRI Hospital in Guntur, led by Dr K. Kalyan Chakravarthy with Prof. Gopal Nath of Banaras Hindu University, used bacteriophage therapy to treat a 72-year-old woman with a chronic multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii bone and joint infection that was resistant to all available antibiotics. She had battled the infection for six months before being admitted in critical condition in January and has had no recurrence in the past six months.
