Engineered phage with antibacterial CRISPR–Cas selectively reduce E. coli burden in mice

Nature Biotechnology paper on SNIPR001: from a library of 162 wild-type phages, eight with broad E. coli coverage were selected and engineered with tail fibers and CRISPR–Cas machinery to target E. coli. A combination of the four most complementary phages, SNIPR001, was well tolerated in mouse models and minipigs and reduced E. coli load in the mouse gut better than its individual components.
