Oliver Bezuidt (University of Pretoria, South Africa) and colleagues published a new paper in mSystems that sheds light on Antarctic phage-host interactions. Their metagenomic analysis picked up DISARM, BREX and CRISPR-Cas defense systems in Antarctic polar deserts, and these directly correlated with the metavirome of these communities. Overall it seems that phage-host interactions are active and important here.
