A novel flow cytometry assay based on bacteriophage-derived proteins for Staphylococcus detection in blood

Susana Costa (University of Minho, Portugal) and colleagues published a paper in Scientific Reports on developing a novel flow cytometry assay for detection of Staphylococcus in blood culture samples based on phage-derived proteins. Utilizing a modified endolysin domain from phage E-LMI2 fused to green fluorescent protein, the assay is highly specific, sensitive and could contribute to early detection of bloodstream infections.
