Brussow hurdles editorial

Harald Brüssow, guest editor of the recently completed "Hurdles for Phage Therapy to Become a Reality" issue of Viruses, has written an editorial on the work (30 papers) published in the issue. His take-home lessons for optimizing phage therapy clinical trials: (1) Establish the disease-causing role of the pathogen in the target population (don't rely on textbook knowledge). (2) Avoid polymicrobial infections. (3) Make sure the pathogen concentration in the patient is high enough to support phage infection. (4) Make sure available phages cover the genetic diversity of the pathogen. The editorial is filled with many more insights, and is worth a read!
